Ethnography and Social Identities: A Two-Day Workshop for Ph.D. Scholars

TISS and University of Edinburgh will be organising a two day workshop on Ethnography and Social Identities for PhD scholars.
This interactive workshop is for scholars who have completed ethnographic fieldwork or are in the midst of it. The workshop aims at critically engaging PhD scholars to the opportunities and challenges of participant observation in the study of social exclusion. The focus is on those PhD scholars who are studying deprived groups like Dalits, Muslims and Adivasis, however others with interests in caste, religion and ethnicity too are encouraged to apply. Participation in the workshop will particularly help scholars develop their methodology chapters.
The workshop will be held on August 30 - 31, 2012, and will involve esteemed academics sharing their experiences and commenting on the submissions of PhD scholars. The total number of seats will be limited to twelve and seats for candidates from out of Mumbai are limited to four. Outstation candidates will be provided travel (III AC), boarding and lodging.
Interested PhD scholars should email Dr. Suryakant Waghmore (suryakant@tiss.edu) with a CV and five page (2500 words or less) research proposal clearly explaining rationale, research questions and methodology of your project. If you are completing fieldwork you could submit a short chapter (less than 3500 words) on methodology. The last date for receiving application is May 5.
Short-listed candidates will be informed by May 30.

conference: National Conference on Technology, Innovation and Social Change

The Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, Tata Institute of Social Sciences is organising a three day National Conference cum Research Workshop on "Technology, Innovation and Social Change" during 16-18 August, 2012.

Registration Details:
  • Authors must submit an abstract in about 500 words explaining the intent for participation, research question and research plan to Dr. Rama Krishna Reddy Kummitha on his email id krishna.reddy@tiss.edu not later than May 31, 2012.
  • Authors of the selected paper presenters will have to pay a nominal registration fee of Rs. 1000 to attend the Workshop cum Conference which will include conference kit, lunch and a gala dinner.
  • The abstract must also contain authors’ names, institutional affiliations, email and postal address. Authors will be notified of acceptance or otherwise by June 15, 2012.
  • Though this workshop and conference does not aim to reject proposal, relevance of papers, quality of research question and robust methodology would be the critical parameters for including the papers in the Conference.
  • Selected papers will also be encouraged to be presented before an international audience during the International Conference to be organized by TISS in the month of January, 2013. Such papers will have high potential for publication in reputed journals.
The last date for submission of selected full papers will be July 15, 2012.
Accommodation: Limited non-ac accommodation will be available in TISS Guest House on twin-sharing basis @ Rs. 500 per participant per day on first come first serve basis. Participants will be required to book the accommodation by making an advance payment on or before June 15, 2012.
