ADMISSION NOTICE FOR THE 2018–19 ACADEMIC SESSION

About: South Asian University (SAU) is an international university established by the governments of the eight member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) viz., Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The University, established with the aim of evolving a South Asian consciousness, offers Master’s and PhD level programmes in Economics, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Applied Mathematics, Sociology, International Relations and Legal Studies.
SAU attracts students from all member nations and its degrees are recognized by all the eight SAARC countries.

The University currently functions from its Akbar Bhawan campus in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. It will eventually move to its 100-acre campus in Maidan Garhi, South Delhi, which is expected to be ready by the year 2019.

About the Programme: The Integrated M. Phil – Ph. D. Programme is a five year full time Programme. All the candidates admitted to the Integrated M. Phil – Ph. D Programme will follow a common course curriculum (see webpage on Social Sciences). However, for M. Phil in Education*, Women's Studies, Health System Studies, Rural Development, Development Studies, Disaster Studies*, Inclusive Development and Social Justice there will be a subject specific taught M. Phil. Programme of four semesters. The first year of the programme comprises of course work while in the second year, students will work towards completing their M.Phil Dissertation.

The Ph.D. Programme is designed for candidates with a minimum of five years of post-graduate relevant experience in the field being proposed for research by the candidate. Selected candidates can pursue Ph.D. either by staying on the TISS campus (subject to availability of accommodation) or from whichever location they are based in. TISS does not make any distinction among research scholars as full time and part time. However, selected candidates who are not residing in the Campus, are expected to be in touch with the research guide, attend modular programmes/courses (also applicable for direct on campus PhD scholars who do not hold an M.Phil degree), pay fees regularly, ensure timely submission of progress reports and fulfill the necessary requirements of the Ph.D. programme.

The Central University of Gujarat (CUG) has commenced admissions to various courses and programmes for the academic year 2016-17. This year too the complete admission process will be online starting from filling up of the application forms, printing admit/hall cards, computer-based exams, announcement of results and submission of enrolment form and final registrations. The online application form will be available on the University website (www.cug.ac.in) from 07th May, 2016. Online computer-based entrance tests for various courses will be conducted at 40 centres across India on 26th June, 2016.
Programmes of studies, relevant eligibility criteria, intake, entrance test fees, mode of payment and other relevant details will be available on the University website from 07th May, 2016 onwards.

IIT-Bombay M.Phil. in Planning and Development: Admission for 2015-16 Batch

M.Phil. programme in Planning and Development: The M.Phil. Programme with specialization in Planning and Development is a 4 - semester interdisciplinary course, was launched in July 1993. The programme with a theoretical-practical thrust provides the students with a holistic understanding of socio-economic reality and the impact of technology. It also acquaints them with the various stages and levels of expertise involved in the formulation and implementation of development policies that can bring about a sustainable, stable, and desirable development. With such training which includes coursework, thesis writing and field trip, it is expected that the students coming out of this programme will be able to help steer the national, state and regional planning and developmental processes. There is a paucity of such personnel in India at present and I.I.T. Bombay is the first to start such a programme. There are about 10-12 students pursuing the M.Phil. programme every year.

Eligibility and Selection Procedure: Admission to this programme is open to those who qualify in MET/GATE/UGC-JRF/UGC-LECTURERSHIP. Master's Degree in Arts, Commerce (with 55% marks), or M.Sc., B.Tech (with 60% marks with adequate background in Social Sciences) is essential. Those appearing for the above exams may also apply. Those who are in service can apply as sponsored candidates. The selection will be based on the qualifying test and interview.
The programme aims to educate and train personnel in various aspects of Development Policy in the Indian Context. The Programme is interdisciplinary with a theoretic-practical thrust, and is not in an area offered by the universities. The students will be trained to help steer the national, state and regional plans.
Social reality and development are complex phenomenon. They can be understood in their entirety only by adopting the multidisciplinary approach. A holistic understanding of socio-economic reality and of the various stages and levels of expertise involve d in the information and implementation of development policies can bring about a sustainable, stable, and desirable development. There is a paucity of such personnel in India at present. It is in this context that the HSS Department has launched its multidisciplinary M.Phil. programme.


Programme duration: The duration of the programme is four semesters.
Semester 1: 4 courses + Seminar I
Semester 2: 3 courses + First stage of Dissertation
Semester 3: 1 course + R & D Project
Semester 4: Second and Third stages of dissertation
