HR analytics entails evidence based decision making about people issues in an organization. The increasing use of technology in organizations generates a huge amount of data about people, processes, business and context. This should, ideally, enable a detailed analysis of HR policies, practices, procedures of the organization and help ascertain whether it aligns with the organizational strategy and purpose.
The areas covered under HR analytics include, but are not restricted to, descriptive analysis (for example, analysing the attrition data to derive insights about retention strategies) and predictive analysis (for example, analysing performance data to predict the future performance of a newcomer). The programme indeed sets the way for assessing, designing and transforming HR systems and processes based on solid evidence and data, thus, enhancing the alignment between HR and strategy.

Call for Abstracts: 2018 International Workshop for Young Scientists of the Hindu Kush Himalaya

http://huc-hkh.org/announcements/detail/call-for-abstracts-2018-international-workshop-for-young-scientists-of-the-hindu-kush-himalaya

The Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region extends 3,500 km over all or part of eight countries, from Afghanistan in the west to Myanmar in the east. Ten large Asian river systems—the Amu Darya, Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra (Yarlung Tsangpo), Irrawaddy, Salween (Nu), Mekong (Lancang), Yangtse (Jinsha), Yellow River (Huanghe), and Tarim (Dayan)—originate here. The HKH provides water, ecosystem services, and livelihood opportunities to a population of around 240 million people in the mountains and hills. The HKH river basins meet the water, hydropower, inland navigation and other needs of 1.9 billion people, a fifth of the world’s population. The total snow and ice cover of the Himalayan range is 35,110 sq km, of which 3,735 cu km constitutes eternal snow and ice. Hills and mountains, particularly the HKH, are characterized by the resilience, and adaptation and mitigation capacities of the people who inhabit these landscapes. Over the centuries, the people of the Himalaya have maintained their rich cultural diversity, including food and biogenetic diversity, and associated traditions.

Regional cooperation is imperative to the management and sustainable use of natural resources as these are interconnected at the transboundary level and transboundariness is relevant to regional stability and sustainable and inclusive growth. The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is organizing a workshop to create opportunities for young scientists and scholars in the region to exchange knowledge and experiences, and promote regional cooperation. The workshop is being co-organized by the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environments, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Himalayan University Consortium (HUC), and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), as a session of the Belt and Road Forum, CAS on 5–6 November 2018.

About the Workshop
This workshop will provide a unique opportunity for early career scholars in the HKH to interact with their peers in the region, share their research experience, and cultivate collegial partnerships and lay foundations for future leadership in the region. Participants will include PhD students, scientists, engineers, and young scholars from universities that are full members of HUC. Some scientists and outstanding PhD students will be invited to make keynote presentations.

The Second International Science Forum of National Scientific Organizations on the Belt and Road Initiative is to be organized by CAS with the theme: Science and Technology cooperation and sustainable development for the Belt and Road region. The 2018 International Workshop for Young Scientists of the HKH has been incorporated in the session on capacity building, personal training, and basic scientific research, with the aim of providing a platform for young students, researchers, and university and research institute administrators to exchange ideas for better collaboration.

Theme
The workshop will focus on climate change and sustainable development in the HKH. Major topics include:
  • Climate change
  • Disaster risk reduction
  • Biodiversity and stable ecosystem
  • Water resources
  • Livelihoods and poverty reduction
  • Regional development
  • Education and knowledge dissemination

Women and individuals from ethnic minority and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the 2018 International Workshop for Young Scientists of the HKH.
