The Central University of Gujarat (CUG) has commenced admissions to various courses and programmes for the academic year 2016-17. This year too the complete admission process will be online starting from filling up of the application forms, printing admit/hall cards, computer-based exams, announcement of results and submission of enrolment form and final registrations. The online application form will be available on the University website (www.cug.ac.in) from 07th May, 2016. Online computer-based entrance tests for various courses will be conducted at 40 centres across India on 26th June, 2016.
Programmes of studies, relevant eligibility criteria, intake, entrance test fees, mode of payment and other relevant details will be available on the University website from 07th May, 2016 onwards.

EXIM BANK OF INDIA BRICS ECONOMIC RESEARCH AWARD 2016

Objective: Stimulating advanced research on economics related topics of relevance to the member nations of BRICS Eligible Persons: Nationals of any of the five member nations of BRICS, who have been awarded a Doctorate or accepted for award of a Doctorate from any recognized nationally accredited University or academic institution globally, are eligible to receive the Award.
Eligible Universities/ academic institutions: Any University or academic institution which has awarded a Doctorate or accepted a thesis for award of a Doctorate must be recognized and nationally accredited by the official competent body in the respective country.
Eligible Entry: Any thesis which has been awarded a Doctorate or accepted for award of a Doctorate during January 2011 to December 2015.
Subject Matter of Thesis: Research in international economics, trade, development and related financing. Issues of particular relevance to BRICS nations/ member development banks of BRICS such as those pertaining (but not limited) to international economics, foreign trade, development and related financing, foreign direct investments, joint ventures, international competitiveness, policies impacting trade and investment, monetary and fiscal interventions would be of particular interest. Credit would be given for originality, clarity of presentation and relevance to BRICS context Language of Thesis: Thesis may have been originally submitted in any national language of the BRICS countries or in English.
The Award: The Award consists of a Citation and prize money of 1.5 million (equivalent) (approximately USD 20,000) sponsored by Exim Bank.

Terms and Conditions of the Award:
  1. Thesis may have been originally submitted in English or any national language of the BRICS countries, in which case the entry must be accompanied along with an English Translation and papers published in journals reporting such Thesis.
  2. All entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form (in English) signed by the author.
  3. An abstract of the thesis in the form of a well-written and self-explanatory essay covering theme, methodology, findings and conclusion (up to 5000 words) in English must be provided. Abstracts of Entries must be typed 1.5-spaced.
  4. All entries must be received by Exim Bank on or before June 15, 2016.
  5. All entries must be accompanied by a certificate from relevant university/ institute regarding award/ acceptance of thesis for award of Doctorate.
  6. All entries must be accompanied by a copy of the current passport (first
  7. two and last two pages) of the applicant to verify his/ her nationality/ citizenship of BRICS nations.
  8. Exim Bank does not undertake to return entries to authors and accepts no liability arising out of loss of entries in transit.
  9. Wherever possible, applicants will enclose evaluation reports in respect of their thesis from the evaluators and indicate the names of all referees/ evaluators/ supervisors of their thesis in the entry form.
  10. The award winner for 2016 will be invited to a ceremony at the BRICS Summit 2016 at Goa, India.

[A Full-time 9 month Fellowship starting in August 2016 till May, 2017]


ABOUT: The UFP is a fully-funded, nine-month, full-time, inter-disciplinary programme for recent graduates and young professionals from varied educational backgrounds or practice domains. Through the UFP, Fellows will:
  • Gain cutting-edge knowledge and perspectives in core urban sectors
  • Gain professional skills to enable rapid career development across private, public and community-based organisations
  • Engage with global, national and local thought leaders, entrepreneurs and change makers from diverse fields of urban practice
  • Network with national and international urban practitioners and experts
  • Access experiential learning that is linked to professional practice and is tailored to the aspirations of young professionals
  • Learn from a diverse and experienced faculty who bring together theory and practice
  • Develop a comparative perspective on urban development across cities in India
  • Apply new learning immediately within the course and through an internship
IMPORTANT DATES: The UFP 2016-17 will award 35 fully-funded Fellowships on a competitive basis. Candidates are strongly encouraged to apply within the first deadline. It is estimated that the UFP 2016-17 class will be nearly entirely filled in the first round. A second round will be held for limited remaining seats, if any.
We have received an overwhelming response to the Urban Fellows Programme, with more than 1300 candidates starting applications. We strongly encourage everyone interested in applying to the Programme to submit your application by Tuesday, 10th May 2016 (Tuesday 11:59 pm, IST).

The timeline for the admissions procedure is as follows:
10th May 2016 (Tuesday 11:59 pm, IST): First round of applications close
12th- 13th May 2016 (Thursday- Friday): Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to set up interview times and dates. Interviews will be in person or via Skype (phone interviews will be conducted only in exceptional circumstances)
14th May- 18th May 2016 (Saturday- Wednesday): Interviews will be conducted
23rd May 2016 (Monday): Selected and wait listed candidates will be informed
Second Deadline: 30 May 2016
2nd – 5th June 2016 (Thursday – Sunday): Interviews for second round of admissions
10 June 2016 (Friday): Second admission decisions


FEES and COSTS: The UFP is a fully funded programme. All fellowships include tuition and accommodation. Applicants with significant financial need may also apply for an additional living stipend.
All admitted Fellows will be asked to submit a Rs 20,000 deposit to secure their admission. This will be refunded upon successful completion of the Fellowship. Applicants in financial need may request a waiver of the deposit to be considered on a case by case basis.
