56 countries around the world. We are looking for young changemakers above 12 years and

SICI-Mitacs Partnership Programme, Globalink Research Internship (GRI): call for student applications for the summer of 2021

The Mitacs-SICI Globalink Research Awards can provide funding for research collaborations between Canadian and SICI member institutions. This program can be used to support large scale research collaborations between SICI’s Indian and Canadian member institutions, as well as individual research projects. Eligible participants (Master’s, PhD, Postdocs) from India and Canada (each way) apply to conduct joint research projects with academic collaborators/supervisors at SICI’s Indian / Canadian member universities for a period of 12-24 weeks (25% of the time can be spent at the home institution). Master’s or Ph.D Students and Post-doctoral fellows from SICI member Institutions in India and Canada will travel to the other country to work on research projects at SICI Member Institutions for 12-24 weeks

This is a competitive opportunity and a limited number of awards are available.

Eligibility

The Applicant must:

  • Be registered as full-time Master’s, Ph.D. student, or postdoctoral fellow at an eligible Indian/ Canadian university or institution and remain as such throughout their Globalink Research Award. Postdoctoral fellows may apply if their date of graduation from a PhD program is no more than 5 years prior to the proposed start date of the research project.
  • Be from SICI member institutions.
  • Not undertake a research project at an institution where they have previously completed a degree and/or been employed.
  • Be the legal age of majority in India /Canada (18 years of age or older)
  •  Meet travel requirements for their intended destination, including visa and/or immigration requirements and associated documentation
  •  Not be previously awarded a Globalink Research Award 

Host Supervising Professors

  •  Must hold a faculty position at a Canadian/ Indian university
  •  Must be eligible to supervise graduate students and hold funding from Tri-Council / any other Government body/ agency in India / Canada

Home Supervising Professors

  •  Must be recognized faculty members at their Indian / Canadian institutions
  •  Must be eligible to supervise graduate students in India / Canada

4-5. Letters of support from both participating professors. Both letters must:

o Be written on university letterhead and be signed by the professor

o Provide the supervisor’s title and department

o Outline supervisory and/or financial support for the intern and project

o Describe the intern’s academic and research qualities, outstanding achievements, and ability to complete the project

6. Host supervisor’s CV in English or French, including funding history, publications, and graduate

     interns supervised

7.Intern Code of Conduct and Ethics of Mitacs * and  Policy on Academic Integrity and Code of Ethics (PAICE) governing the programmes administered by Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

8. International Pre-Departure Form*

*These forms can be submitted after the submission of the application; however, funds will not be released until Mitacs receives these forms.

Value of Award: 6000 CAD

This includes student airfare, visa, medical insurance, living stipend, research related costs, student stipend, accommodation costs, programming, evaluation, professional development, administration, and research costs.

Deadline: The Programme is open to receive applications throughout the year. However, once the numbers of designated awards are made, programme will close. Applicants are advised to apply at their earliest to secure an award.  

Duration: 12 to 24 weeks

Buddhist Studies Scholarships 2020 by Khyentse Foundation, Rs.2L (LD: 15/07/2020)

ABOUT: Khyentse Foundation Buddhist Studies Scholarships are grants to support individuals who wish to study the Dharma. KF accepts applications from teachers, students, practitioners, scholars, and translators, from all traditions, schools, and sects of Buddhism.

WHEN: KF accepts open scholarship applications twice a year, from December 15 – January 15 and from June 15 – July 15. Applicants will be notified by May 15 and November 15, respectively.

Applications are reviewed by an international selection committee appointed by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. Download the application.

HOW MUCH: KF Buddhist Study Scholarships generally range from US$500 to $3,000, and occasionally more, depending on the project.

UNESCO and Idries Shah Foundation launch “World Tales” Short Story Competition 2020 [Las Date: 15/10/2020]

UNESCO and Idries Shah Foundation launch “World Tales” Short Story Competition 2020

Theme: “Once upon a time in my future”.


Climate change, human rights violations, conflicts, racism and discrimination are among many threats to our present and future. In the face of adversity and the manifold consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, creative young minds need to be encouraged to find innovative solutions.
Extension of deadline for submission: 15 October 2020 at midnight (CET).

With the aim to foster imagination, resourcefulness and ingenuity, UNESCO and the Idries Shah Foundation (ISF) launch the World Tales Short Story Competition in close collaboration with the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities of UNESCO (ICCAR). Young teenagers from all over the globe are invited to write about challenges of today and tomorrow in the format of a short story, and share their perspectives.

The theme of this 2020 First Edition is “Once upon a time in my future”.

Who is eligible?: Participants must be between 12 and 18 years old (inclusive). The Competition is open to all regardless of their nationality or city of residence.

How to participate?: Entries must be:
  • Short stories of 250 to 500 words;
  • Typed in English or French using Arial 12-point Regular font;
  • Original unpublished works of fiction;
  • Stories on the potential for future societies to be fair, inclusive, peaceful, resilient, sustainable and/or tolerant.
Attention: please note that entries not respecting all of the requirements will not be considered.
The deadline for submission to worldtales@unesco.org (link sends e-mail) is 15 October 2020 at midnight (CET).


Evaluation criteria
The short stories will be evaluated primarily on their degree of creativity and imagination.
Participants will benefit from a particular leniency for potential grammatical and linguistic mistakes.

Prizes
  • Three Laureates — Gold, Silver and Bronze — will be selected from each of the seven national and regional Coalitions forming ICCAR. All 21 names will be announced on December 2020. We regret to announce that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will unfortunately not be possible to organize a high-level conference at UNESCO Headquarters, as initially planned, and to invite the laureates to attend.
  • However, all will be invited to attended an online Award ceremony in December 2020 during which the names of the seven Gold winning laureates will be announced.
  • Each of these Gold winning laureates will be awarded an iPad.
  • The Idries Shah Foundation will publish the work of the 21 laureates in a special edition hardcover book. It will feature all winning short stories and honorable mentions, and will be made available in ePub format.
  • All winning laureates will receive a copy of the book, and a personalized certificate.
  • Schools and cities of the 21 laureates will receive copies of the book and a set of ISF children’s books for their public libraries.

About the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities of UNESCO (ICCAR): ICCAR is a global 500+ cities network. It empowers local decision-makers by promoting dialogue, advocacy and joint action towards inclusive urban development free from any form of discrimination.
ICCAR is composed of seven national and regional Coalitions. Each Coalition responds to specific priorities and challenges set out in a Ten-Point Plan of Action.
