2012 Emerald/IAM South Asia Management Research Fund Award

Supporting knowledge creation and dissemination for the social good in South Asia 

Call for South Asia management research proposals

This year, Emerald and the IAM – Indian Academy of Management – are delighted to offer a research grant for a South Asian project in the field of management research. There will be one award of £2,000 (approximately US$3,000 equivalent) for the winning research project, and two awards of £500 each for highly-commended runners up, to fund or part-fund these projects.
Applications should address the creation and dissemination of knowledge for the social good with a specific orientation toward benefit for South Asia.

Eligibility: The main member of the research team must be based in South Asia. For the purpose of this award, South Asian countries are defined as: India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Pakistan and Maldives. 

Judging criteria: Each application will be judged, by a panel of experts, on the criteria below. The research must:
  • Be of significance, and in particular, illustrate how it will benefit the social good.
  • Demonstrate originality and innovation.
  • Make an outstanding contribution to theory and its application.
  • Illustrate the appropriateness and application of the methodology.
  • Demonstrate sound implications for theory and practice.

The following documents will be required electronically:
  • A summary stating specific goals, outcomes and benefits of the research. This should not exceed 2,000 words (note that tables, figures, appendices and reference lists, if provided do NOT count to the 2,000 word total).
  • A covering letter containing full contact details (affiliation, full address, telephone number/s and e-mail address) for all researchers involved in the project. Please state clearly which researcher will be the main point of contact.
The 2,000-word summary must:
  • Display clearly a statement of purpose and intent.
  • State clearly the methodology(ies) applied and explicitly describe the research process.
  • State expected research outcomes and expected impact and possible application.
  • Specify the expected timescales of the research process.
  • Outline projected costs and total research grant required.
Key dates: The closing date for applications is 1 February 2013.
Winners will be announced in April 2013.

ALL INDIA ESSAY COMPETITION FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS ON “HOW GANDHIJI WOULD HAVE VIEWED ANNA HAZARE’S ANTI CORRUPTION MOVEMENT?”

In the context of the  forthcoming Gandhi Jayanthi day on  2ndOctober , 2012, Nandini Voice for the Deprived, a Chennai based NGO is organizing an All India essay competition for college students on “How Gandhiji would have viewed Anna Hazare’s Anti corruption Movement?”

Objective:
It is quite sometime now since Anna Hazare started his anti corruption movement. Anna Hazare said on several occasions that he derives inspiration from Gandhian philosophy in launching the movement.  While there are pledged supporters, there are also critics. The objective of the essay competition is to give an opportunity to the college students to introspect on the subject and express their thoughts on how Gandhiji would have viewed Anna Hazare’s anti corruption movement.

College students all over India can participate in the competition.
The essay should be of maximum 1500 words and can be written either in English, Tamil or Hindi.
Ten of the best essays will be selected for award.
Last date for submission of essay is 30th August,2012.

Ethnography and Social Identities: A Two-Day Workshop for Ph.D. Scholars
Organised by: TISS - University of Edinburgh Collaboration (UKIERI)
Dates: August 30 - 31, 2012

TISS and University of Edinburgh will be organising a two day workshop on Ethnography and Social Identities for PhD scholars.
This interactive workshop is for scholars who have completed ethnographic fieldwork or are in the midst of it. The workshop aims at critically engaging PhD scholars to the opportunities and challenges of participant observation in the study of social exclusion. The focus is on those PhD scholars who are studying deprived groups like Dalits, Muslims and Adivasis, however others with interests in caste, religion and ethnicity too are encouraged to apply. Participation in the workshop will particularly help scholars develop their methodology chapters.
The workshop will be held on August 30 - 31, 2012, and will involve esteemed academics sharing their experiences and commenting on the submissions of PhD scholars. The total number of seats will be limited to twelve and seats for candidates from out of Mumbai are limited to four. Outstation candidates will be provided travel (III AC), boarding and lodging.
Interested PhD scholars should email Dr. Suryakant Waghmore (suryakant@tiss.edu) with a CV and five page (2500 words or less) research proposal clearly explaining rationale, research questions and methodology of your project. If you are completing fieldwork you could submit a short chapter (less than 3500 words) on methodology. The last date for receiving application is May 5.
Short-listed candidates will be informed by May 30.

The Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, Tata Institute of Social Sciences is organising a three day National Conference cum Research Workshop on "Technology, Innovation and Social Change" during 16-18 August, 2012.

Registration Details:
  • Authors must submit an abstract in about 500 words explaining the intent for participation, research question and research plan to Dr. Rama Krishna Reddy Kummitha on his email id krishna.reddy@tiss.edu not later than May 31, 2012.
  • Authors of the selected paper presenters will have to pay a nominal registration fee of Rs. 1000 to attend the Workshop cum Conference which will include conference kit, lunch and a gala dinner.
  • The abstract must also contain authors’ names, institutional affiliations, email and postal address. Authors will be notified of acceptance or otherwise by June 15, 2012.
  • Though this workshop and conference does not aim to reject proposal, relevance of papers, quality of research question and robust methodology would be the critical parameters for including the papers in the Conference.
  • Selected papers will also be encouraged to be presented before an international audience during the International Conference to be organized by TISS in the month of January, 2013. Such papers will have high potential for publication in reputed journals.
The last date for submission of selected full papers will be July 15, 2012.
Accommodation: Limited non-ac accommodation will be available in TISS Guest House on twin-sharing basis @ Rs. 500 per participant per day on first come first serve basis. Participants will be required to book the accommodation by making an advance payment on or before June 15, 2012.

It gives us immense pleasure to invite you to the 12th International Human Resource Conference to be held at the Management Development Institute, India during December 10-13, 2012. 
The conference will bring academia and HR representatives from all over the world to congregate, interact and exchange views. The conference will serve as an ideal platform to stimulate and build upon ideas resulting in professional and academic development.
The first International Human Resource Management Conference took place in the late 1980’s and for more than 20 years has been held biennially.  IHRM Conferences have been hosted in Singapore, Hong Kong, Ashridge (UK), Gold Coast ( Australia), San Diego (USA), Paderborn (Germany), Limerick (Ireland) , Coimbatore (India) ,Cairns (Australia), Tallin (Estonia) and Santa Fe, New Mexico and Birmingham (UK). In December 2012, 12th IHRM conference will be hosted in Gurgaon (India), at Management Development Institute.
Aligned with the conference theme, we invite submissions that cover conceptual, theoretical and empirical investigations that adopt different methodologies and highlight the context-specific nature of IHRM systems. Papers that address but are not necessarily restricted to the following topics are especially invited:

The conference programme will consist of keynote speeches, symposia, competitive paper sessions, interactive paper sessions, and career development workshops for doctoral and early career researchers.

Please note Best Papers which are internationally reviewed will be considered for a special Issue of an International Journal with high Impact factor, and Practitioner papers and case studies will be considered for an edited book by a publisher of repute.

STUDY INDIA PROGRAM ON URBAN HEALTH IN INDIA



The Center for Public Health, School of Health Systems Studies, TISS welcomes applications for its 'Study India program on Urban Health in India'. With proliferating urbanisation, public health is an increasing area of interest. The clinical health can not be separated from the complex socio-cultural and economic context. The health care systems have become very dynamic to meet the challenging situation. The program intend to have the following objectives:
  • To understand the issues of the urban public health in India and the practices of public and private health care systems.
  • To provide opportunity cross-cultural experiences on Urban health issues through Group study, Seminar and Field based internship
  • To provide exposure to multifaceted culture in India

Course Duration: December 31, 2012 -  January 20, 2013
Eligibility: Masters students of Public Health or related disciplines form any US, UK, Australia and Europe based Universities.
No of Seats: Limited to 15 only
Awards of Credits: 3 credits @ 1 credit for 1 week

Facilities available on campus:
Food: Institute's Dining Hall – Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will cost about 5 USD a day, nearby restaurants will cost about 10 – 15 USD a day.
Transportation: Airport pick up / drop will be provided on request which will cost about 20 USD
Accommodation: Guest-house – 2 Single bedded occupancy (USD 450/-)
Fees: Internship fee USD 450

admission: TISS's MLISc 2012-14 (maiden batch)

Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai invites applications for its regular master’s programme “Master of Library and Information Science” (MLISc) for the academic year 2012-13.

TISS, established in 1936, is known for its well crafted curriculum, sound theory, high quality teaching and experiential learning unique to TISS. This two year, four semester and 66 credit master’s programme comprises 20 core courses which provide common and essential inputs covering the Library and Information Science. Building on these fundamentals, students undertake a dissertation in an area of interest.
Programme lays more emphasis on practical aspects of library and information science and is multidisciplinary drawing expertise from all the schools/centres of TISS and other related institutions/ industries in India.

Candidates who have completed graduation in any stream are eligible to apply. Candidates will have to register themselves on website and then apply online.The selection will be based on an Entrance Test, Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).

Entrance test will be conducted at Mumbai, Hyderabad and Guwahati campuses. The GD/PI will happen only at Mumbai Campus. Last date for applying is 20th May 2012

The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB)

The Directory of Open Access Books is a service of OAPEN Foundation. The OAPEN Foundation is an international initiative dedicated to Open Access monograph publishing, based at the National Library in The Hague. DOAB is being developed in close cooperation with Lars Bjørnshauge and Salam Baker Shanawa (director of SemperTool), who were also responsible for the development of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). SemperTool develops and maintains DOAB system.
