AICTE: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament with a view to proper planning and co-ordinated development of the Technical Education system throughout the country, the promotion of qualitative improvement of such education in relation to planned quantitative growth and the regulation and proper maintenance of norms and standards in the technical education system and for matters connected therewith.

USVA AWARD: The AICTE Vishwakarma Awards is being organised by AICTE for promoting innovative spirit and scientific temperament for holistic development of society through the stake holders of its approved institutes. By means of this competition, the innovations, achievements and social contribution of individuals and institutions/ organizations shall be recognized and applauded. The Vishwakarma Awards are inspired by the spirit of engineering and creation patronized by Lord Vishwakarma, the ruling deity of construction practices in India. As per Rigveda, Lord Vishwakarma is considered to be deity who is the original creator, architect and divine engineer of the universe. The Awards are thus a means to provide a platform for our stake holders to look at the societal challenges, with an aim to provide an innovative and low cost solutions. However, it is not merely a competition it will also encourage the students, faculties and institutions to bring about sustainable solution to problems. These awards are an embodiment of encouraging truly successful efforts that have made a mark on the society in terms of delivering better outputs & processes and creating higher benchmarks. Under this, one of the category is Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award, which aims to motivate, recognize and honour the AICTE approved institutions to raise their performance in the specific domain leading to significant contribution for the growth and development of the society. The objective is to foster an ecosystem where institutional support is made available/ rendered on voluntary basis in form of interventions over a sustained period of time leading to measureable outcome. This year, India is facing an extraordinary challenge to protect citizens from the rapidly spreading COVID-19 pandemic all around the globe. The government in pursuit of garnering maximum efforts against this pandemic, which demands the contribution of youth to act against the spread of COVID-19 across India.

The Problem Statement: As we face our biggest challenge to contain the spread of COVID -19 in India and the technical education community in the country being well capable of serving the community by utilizing its vast knowledge and ample resources. Hence, AICTE under its Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award (USVA) 2020 is proposing the theme of the year as “INDIA FIGHTS CORONA”. Institutions who have initiated all kinds of steps to ensure that the spread of virus is slowed down or stopped and have helped their society or Authorities by providing their helping hand during the lockdown period through the conduct of awareness programmes, free Counselling, tele-support, manufacturing/providing hand sanitizers, masks, shelter/ food/ materials for the needy, developing e-material for managing online classes, educating school students, involving in development of essential solutions, etc. in their bid to Government efforts in fighting COVID-19, shall send their nominations.

Eligibility Requirement
1.All AICTE approved institutions/ Universities are eligible to apply.
2.Major achievements/ activities/ initiatives of the Institute/ University towards contribution against fighting of COVID-19 will only be considered.

Evaluation Criteria: The award will be evaluated on the basis of the following major considerations:-
1. Awareness program Conducted for nearby locality to make people aware of COVID-19 and its consequences.
2.Counselling / Tele Support Provided to their students, stakeholders and also for the people of nearby locality.
3.Material/ Product manufactured/ Developed (e.g. Mask, sanitizer, ventilator, etc.) by the institute to fight against COVID-19.
4.Materials/ Product distributed by the institution (e.g. Mask, sanitizer, soaps, food, clothes, medicine, study material, etc.) to the nearby locality or to the needy people.
5.Maintenance of Public Assets -Renovation and restoration of infrastructure, equipment and facilities in government hospitals/ public health centres and other institution of public utilities.
6.How innovatively you have conducted classes for students of your institution during the lockdown period.
7.Steps taken, to provide online Teaching Learning Programme to nearby College/ School Students.
8.Institutional Infrastructure/facility provided to authorities to combat COVID-19in terms of shelter homes, isolation wards, healthcare facilities, etc.
9.Details of other support provided (visits to create awareness, services rendered, assistance extended to migrants, etc.)
10.Financial Contribution provided by your institution/ faculty members/ students towards the relief fund (Central / State).
11.Helped authorities in implementing their projects/ schemes/ initiatives against spread and prevention of COVID-19.
12.Any other significant contribution in the relevant domain having measurable outcome/ impact created in the society.
13.Post COVID-19 redevelopment/ rehabilitation plan.

Important Instructions for submitting the nominations under USVA’ 2020:
1.Portal for inviting applications will be available on AICTE website from 17th April 2020.
2. Institute can submit online application at https://www.aicte-india.org latest by 30th May, 2020.
3. Every institution shall be allowed to send only 1 (One) nomination. Once submitted, no changes in the application/ data/ options shall be entertained.
4.Institution/ university shall be required to render details of the contribution or steps taken towards the prevention of spread of COVID-19.
5.Each applicant need to follow the word limit as mentioned in each column of application, else your application will not be considered.
6.A self-Declaration form shall be submitted by the Head of the Institution stating that the information given by the institution in their application is true and factual.

Selection Criteria for USVA2020:
1.The Council shall shortlist the applications based on certain criteria(to be decided by the committee as nominated by Council).
2.The State wise activities shall be coordinated by the concerned AICTE Regional Officer either through themselves or through the nominated State Co-ordinator.
3.The Council shall nominate an expert committee to visit the shortlisted institute to verify the claims of the institute. The institute shall produce all suitable documentation to showcase the work done and impact created.
4.The reports and outcome of the visits shall be evaluated by the jury of experts and the results will be charted based on the merits of the case.
5.AICTE shall decide to confer/ restrict/ enhance the awards/ category as per the decision of the competent authority. Hence there shall be no claims to the contrary.

Jury: A Jury for the different stages shall be constituted by the Council from time to time. The members in the jury shall consist of eminent educationists, researchers, social workers, representatives of planning bodies, policy formulators and such other persons of repute/ recognition.

Recognition: The Council will recognize and honour the winners of the awards of various categories in an event likely to be held at AICTE HQs., New Delhi.
